The Outreach program in Kia Cooperative Systems Lab
Supported by the National Science Foundation through awards:
ECCS-1653838 (CAREER Program)
IIS-1724331
An important problem in STEM fields is the underrepresentation
of minorities and women. In KCS lab, besides the training and education of graduate students, we have extensive plans to reach, encourage and sponsor undergraduate and high school students from underrepresented groups to participate in STEM research.
Summer scholar program for high school students
KCS lab actively recruits summer researchers from Orange County school district. The recruited students receive training, mentoring and career advice and engage in research programs in KCS lab. We are particularly interested in engaging students from nearby communities with large minority populations, such as Santa Ana. Whenever possible, these students will be provided with paid fellowships to help offset the opportunity cost of forgoing summer employment. The programs at the KCS lab are geared towards exposing students to research opportunities in multi-agent networked systems paradigm.

Research opportunities for undergraduate students
The KCS lab hosts in regular basis undergdate students from MAE, EECS, and CS departements of UCI. Special priority is given to the students from California Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP)
program, a University of California initiative to diversify the student population and the future
